Arizona Hiking View

Hiking is a wonderful outdoor activity that may be enjoyed year-round in Arizona. We offer guided Arizona hiking tours on scenic desert trails in the winter months and on stunning mountain trails during the summer hiking season.

3 Best Guided Arizona Hiking Tours

The following are 3 of our favorite water hikes in Arizona. Check them out for a great opportunity to add a swim to your summer hike.

  • West Clear Creek near Strawberry,
  • Seven Springs in the Tonto National Forest north of Carefree
  • Water Wheel Falls near Payson.

When to Hike

When hiking in the Phoenix region, insure you get out early and complete your hikes before 11AM. There’s nothing quite like seeing the sunrise from the top of a mountain. After noon the sun and heat begin to become more intense, and you increase the risk of dehydration and sunstroke.

Tips to Avoid the Heat

During the summer months Arizona can be very hot. At times the heat can be unbearable and extremely dangerous. This is a reason we suggest that hikers should not go out on their own, without proper equipment, clothing, supplies and guidance. Arizona Hiking Adventures guides are trained professionals that have experience in guiding our clients to regions in Arizona that are at cooler and safer elevations during the hotter summer season.

If you have the desire to hike on your own in Arizona during the summer, check out hiking trails with cooler elevations above 3,500 feet.

Finally, as with all activities in Arizona, it is essential to bring and drink lots of fluids. Water, water and more water should be a priority when packing your supplies for your hike.

More Arizona Hiking Options

Arizona Nighttime Hiking

Another option for summer hiking is to join Arizona Hiking Adventures on one of our early evening full moon hikes. These are great opportunities to enjoy the Arizona landscape during the cooler time of the day, without the intensity of the sun following your steps. You will travel by the light of the moon and your headlamp, under the guidance of one of our qualified guides.
